Ensuring Quality and Consistency through Pick and Place

Our customer now has quality and consistency in gasket inspection and placement

The customer reached out CXV Global with two distinct challenges related to packaging of inhaled anesthetic product on site – material handling of integrated closures and inspection of a critical gasket on the interior of the closure mechanism. The customer needed to unload the closures from plastic shipping trays, inspect each gasket, and then place the closures on a conveyor for downstream processing. The major challenge for this project was speed – the customer required the unloading, inspection and placement to occur at 65 parts per minute.

To accomplish this, the CXV Global team implemented two collaborative robots working in tandem as well as 4 machine vision cameras to accomplish the necessary inspections. The robot pair allows near constant picking and inspection and are controlled by a central controls system developed by CXV Global. CXV Global also implemented automated conveyance that allows for a 30-minute walk away time system capacity.

This solution allows the customer to implement gasket integrity checking, provides automated unloading and material handling, and operates at or above the necessary speed to feed downstream equipment. The solution is integrated to OEM filling equipment and communicates seamlessly with the overall line operations for a simple operator experience that ensures quality and consistency in gasket inspection and placement.
